Huskey and Dietrich Named All-American Scholars

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Keenan Huskey and Ben Dietrich were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholars Wednesday, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced. It is the first All-America Scholar honors for Huskey and Dietrich.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

The duo becomes the 31st and 32nd All-American Scholars in South Carolina men’s golf history. Twenty-one of those honors have come under head coach Bill McDonald. Since 2007, McDonald has produced multiple All-America Scholars in the same year on six occasions.

Huskey, a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, excelled both in the classroom and on the course. He led the team in virtually every major statistical category during the 2016-17 season. His 70.63 18-hole scoring average ranked 16th in the nation and was the third lowest ever by a Gamecock. The Greenville, S.C., native’s par-5 scoring average (4.56) and his 146 birdies both ranked in the top-10 nationally. Huskey finished outside of the top-30 just once in 12 tournaments. He led the team with 21 rounds of par or better and notched single-season highs for top-five finishes (4) and top-10 finishes (6). Huskey logged a pair of 64s in the fall in separate tournaments, tying for the fourth lowest 18-hole score in program history. The team captain earned Honorable All-American honors from Golfweek ââ’¬” he was also named PING All-Southeast Region for the second year in a row as well as Second Team All-SEC.

Dietrich, a four-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and three-time member of the SEC Community Service Team, played in six of the team’s 12 events in 2016-17. He tallied a 74.50 scoring average for the season, finishing with seven rounds of par or better and three rounds in the 60s. His best finish came at the Camden Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 22-23), in which he tied for 17th. He shot a new 18-hole career low in the opening round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate (Sept. 23-25) after firing a 66. The rising redshirt senior started all four fall events
