COLUMBIA, S.C. – Recent South Carolina women’s soccer addition Grace Fisk and the England U-19 squad is set to face the United States U19s in a pair of matches this week at St. George’s Park in the United Kingdom.
The Young Lionesses play the Americans on Wed., July 5, at 3 p.m., and the two sides will meet again two days later on Fri., July 7, at 7 p.m.
This week’s contests will serve as a tuneup for England, which is set to compete in the Euro finals (Aug. 8-20) in Northern Ireland next month. England qualified for the Euro finals after defeating Denmark, Czech Republic and Turkey in April’s elite qualifying round. The finals feature two groups of four, and the top two from each section will advance to the semifinals. England will face Italy, Netherlands and France in the group-play portion of the tournament.
Fisk, a defender from Bromley, London, joined the Gamecocks in March after spending one season at Penn State. The rising sophomore made an immediate impact in her lone season with the Nittany Lions, starting 18 of 21 matches in 2016. She helped Penn State post nine shutouts and netted her first collegiate goal in a 2-0 victory over La Salle on Sept. 11.
The recent addition to Carolina’s backline has played in over 30 matches for the England women’s national team after seeing time with the U-15, U-17, U-18 and U-19 squads. She competed for Millwall Lionesses FC at the club level in England, where she was tabbed her team’s Young Player of the Year in 2015.
