COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina equestrian team is proud to announce that Quinn Brandt will compete with the Gamecocks beginning with the 2017-18 season. Brandt recently joined head coach Boo Major’s program after one year at New Mexico State.

Brandt joins the Gamecocks out of Blumenort, Manitoba, where she attended Steinbach Christian High School. She is a horsemanship rider who spent one season at New Mexico State, where she took a redshirt year.

“We’re excited to announce that Quinn Brandt is going to be joining us next year,” Major said. “I think she’s going to be a great addition. She should be able to help us immediately. She’s familiar with our format from being at New Mexico State last year, and I think she is going to be able to jump right with her experiences from that program.”

The daughter of Curt and Jacqueline Brandt, Quinn has three brothers: Gabriel, Zane and Cyrus. She is trained by Della Cryderman and Bruce Walquist, and she plans to major in nursing at the University of South Carolina.

Brandt is a former Canadian national champion and has earned multiple top-five and top-10 finishes at the Youth World Cup, where she represented Canada in both 2012 and 2014. She has also qualified for the AQYHA World Show multiple times.

Brandt is a versatile athlete who excelled across the athletic spectrum as a youth athlete. Prior to joining the Gamecocks, she lettered in both basketball and badminton.

“We always like to have athletes that have competed in other sports,” Major added. “She was a team captain in basketball during her high school career, and she was the badminton athlete of the year at her high school. I thought that was a fun fact.”

UP NEXT FOR THE GAMECOCKS

Carolina begins their 2017-18 season in September. The Gamecocks return three All-Americans to a squad that advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2017 NCEA Championship.
