Bryan Tallies First PGA Tour Win At RBC Heritage

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Former South Carolina men’s golfer Wesley Bryan tallied his first career win on the PGA TOUR, finishing first at the RBC Heritage on Easter Sunday. He shot 69, 67, 68 and 67 en route to the title. Bryan is the first native South Carolinian to win the RBC Heritage in the 49-year history of the tournament.

“Of all places this is right where the first one goes down,” Bryan said. “I’m going to remember this one for a long time. Just being able to look at the board and know that all I needed was a two-putt on the last hole was pretty special. This is one behind any major I would put up on my list pretty high. To be able to knock it down, especially in front of the home crowd. They were awesome out there today. I got a bunch of cheers when I did stuff. And a bunch of encouragement when I screwed up little bit. But it was really special.”

Bryan’s historic championship skyrocketed him up the FedEx Cup Standings from 59th to 14th. It was his fourth top-10 finish in the young PGA Tour season. Bryan had three straight top-10 finishes after finishing T-4th at the Genesis Open (Feb. 19), T-4th at The Honda Classic (Feb. 26) and T-7th at the Valspar Championship (March 12).

With the win, Bryan earned an automatic bid to the 2018 Masters at Augusta National.

In 15 starts on the Web.com Tour in 2016, Bryan won three times in his first season and was voted 2016 Web.com Tour Player of the Year. As the combined money winner from both the Web.com Tour Regular Season and Finals, he earned fully exempt status on the PGA TOUR in 2016-17 and secured a spot in THE PLAYERS Championship in May.

Bryan played four seasons for the Gamecocks from 2008-12. The Chapin, S.C., native, was All-SEC twice and earned PING All-Southeast Region honors twice. He tallied two wins in his career and ranks 10th all-time in program history with a 73.23 career scoring average. His 72.12 scoring average in 2009-10 is the ninth best single-season scoring average all-time at South Carolina. His 12 career top-10 finishes are tied for ninth all-time.
