Kenneth Ferguson earned the Mondo Southeast District Athlete of the Year award for a sensational season that saw him gain the nation’s top-ranking in the 400m hurdles.
Ferguson held the nation’s No. 1 ranking in the 400m hurdles for much of the season and won every race in that event, including the SEC Championship, entering the NCAA East Regionals. He ran a school and personal record time of 48.79 in the 400m hurdles to earn his first SEC crown. The mark was the world’s sixth-fastest time and the best time for athletes under the age of 20.
The freshman from Detroit will be honored at a banquet in Sacramento, Calif., on June 9.
