Dambaugh To Represent U.S. At Women’s World Amateur Team Championships

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s golf rising senior Katelyn Dambaugh will represent the United States at the 2016 Women’s World Amateur Team Championships, the USGA announced on Monday. Dambaugh, UCLA signee Mariel Galdiano and Stanford signee Andrea Lee will be in action at the four-day event Sept. 14-17 in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

The U.S. has won the event a record 13 times, with its last victory coming in 1998. The tournament, which features four rounds of stroke play, takes place every two years.

The Women’s World Amateur Team Championship is conducted by the International Golf Federation (IGF), which is currently running the golf competition at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. The Mexican Golf Federation will host this year’s tournament, and Dot Paluck, the immediate past chairman of the USGA Women’s Committee, will captain the U.S. squad.

Dambaugh boasted strong showings over the summer following a historic junior season. The Goose Creek, S.C., native earned runner-up honors at the 2016 North & South Women’s Amateur (July 11-15) before advancing to match play at the 2016 U.S. Women’s Amateur (Aug. 3-7) earlier this month. Dambaugh is currently listed at No. 12 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

In her third year at South Carolina, Dambaugh set the program record for single-season stroke average (71.62) and totaled the most top-five finishes (6) by a junior. She won the 2016 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional with a school record 207 (-9) and earned First-Team All-America honors from the Women’s Golf Coaches Association and Golfweek.

Dambaugh and the Gamecocks open their 2016-17 campaign next month at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. The 54-hole event takes place Sept. 25-27, and South Carolina’s spring schedule will be released later this fall.
