Gamecocks Alumnus Bryan Holds Lead in PGA Tour Debut

Aug. 12, 2016

COLUMBIA, S.C. — In his first PGA Tour event, University of South Carolina men’s golf alumnus Wesley Bryan is 12-under-par and in sole possession of the lead heading into day three of the John Deere Classic, played at the TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.

Bryan opened with a 66 (-5) in the First Round, which was suspended Thursday evening due to weather and resumed Friday morning, before posting a 64 (-7) Friday evening to climb atop the leaderboard. He holds a one-shot lead over Steve Marino (-11) with second round play set to conclude Saturday morning.

Bryan earned his PGA Tour card last weekend when he won his third Web.com Tour event of the 2016 season to become just the 11th player in Web.com Tour history to earn an automatic three-win promotion. The 2012 graduate of Carolina and Chapin, S.C., native is the first Gamecock since Kyle Thompson to earn a PGA Tour card.
