COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s soccer goalkeeper Mikayla Krzeczowski has earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors, the league announced on Monday afternoon. The accolade marks the first weekly conference award for the Douglasville, Ga., native.

Krzeczowski registered her team-leading fourth shutout of the year in No. 8 South Carolina’s 3-0 win over Kentucky on Sunday. She collected two saves and moved to 7-0-1 in 2016 with the victory. Krzeczowski, who has started all four of the Gamecocks’ conference matches, also stopped two shots in Thursday’s win over LSU.

The first-year keeper leads the SEC in goals against average (0.49), save percentage (.840) and shutouts per game (0.50), and she has allowed just one goal in conference play. As a team, the Gamecocks have already matched their shutout total (6) from a year ago.

Krzeczowski and South Carolina (10-0-1, 4-0-0 SEC) return to action on Thu., Sept. 29, on the road against No. 14 Texas A&M. A win against the Aggies would give the Gamecocks 11-straight victories and equal their longest winning streak ever. Thursday’s match kicks off at 7 p.m. ET, and it will air on SEC Network.
