2016 MAC Herman Trophy Watch List | Season Tickets
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — South Carolina women’s soccer rising junior forward Savannah McCaskill has been placed on the 2016 Missouri Athletic Club’s (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List, the National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) announced on Wednesday.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer presented annually to one male and female athlete. The 38-person female watch list will be narrowed down to 15 players near the end of the regular season before three finalists are revealed in December. The winners will be announced on Fri., Jan. 6, 2017 during the trophy presentation banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Twenty-five players in contention for the award earned 2015 NSCAA All-America honors, including McCaskill. The Chapin, S.C., native becomes the third Gamecock named to the watch list, joining forward Kayla Grimsley (2008-11) and goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo (2011-14). D’Angelo was tabbed a semifinalist for the 2013 MAC Herman Trophy.
McCaskill has paced the South Carolina attack in her first two seasons, leading the Gamecocks in points each year. The forward’s 29 points last fall were the most in a season since 2011, and she became the seventh player in program history to notch double-digit goals (10).
Her production in 2015 led to Third-Team NSCAA All-America honors as well as First-Team NSCAA All-South Region accolades. McCaskill, the 2014 SEC Freshman of the Year, boasts three career multi-goal games, and she currently sits eighth in school history in assists (14) and 10th in points (44).
South Carolina and McCaskill open their 2016 campaign at the Nike Sooner Classic on Aug. 19 against Oklahoma. The Gamecocks’ first home contest is set for Aug. 25 against N.C.
