PLUM, Pa. — South Carolina rising junior Ryan Stachler wrapped up his time at the 116th U.S. Open on Saturday, completing his second round at Oakmont Country Club. Stachler shot 84 (+14) on Saturday to finish his first experience at a major championship.

Stachler missed the cut with a two-day score of 162 (+22) but still leaves Oakmont with a tremendous line to add to his resume. The rising sophomore advanced from Local Qualifying in Peachtree City, Ga., to Sectional Qualifying in Roswell, Ga., where he finished second in a field of 39 distinguished golfers to earn his spot in the U.S. Open field.

Stachler started his second round on the 10th tee. Playing the par-5 12th hole, his third hole of the day, he achieved the highlight of his week, registering a birdie.

Stachler’s success continues a string of outstanding results for the South Carolina Men’s Golf program. The Gamecocks finished seventh at the 2016 NCAA Championship, a program-best, and advanced to the match play portion of the event for the first time. Carolina was listed 10th in the final Golfstat national rankings of the season, and graduated senior Matt NeSmith was awarded the program’s first ever First Team All-America honors.
