COLUMBIA, S.C. – Gamecock senior forward Michael Carrera will participate with the inaugural Latin America Select Team at the 2016 Final Four. Carrera, a native of Venezuela, had a standout senior season at Carolina, leading the Gamecocks in points (14.5) and rebounds (7.7) per game. The Select Team will be featured at several events during the Final Four weekend in Houston.

Latin American basketball players from NCAA universities and International Basketball Federations have been invited to participate, including fellow SEC student-athlete Anthony Perez from Ole Miss. The team was brought together in conjunction with FIBA and the NCAA.

“I’m proud to be Latino and proud to represent Gamecock Nation and the Latino community at an event like this,” Carrera said. He recently wrapped up his career in the garnet and black as the program’s sixth-leading rebounder, and his 1,143 career points puts him 29th in school history.

“I am so excited that Michael will represent USC and Venezuela in this wonderful game,” South Carolina head men’s basketball coach Frank Martin said. “This will be another great opportunity for everyone to see what a tremendous competitor, player and human being Michael is.”

Carrera’s squad will participate in several events, including an autograph session (Friday, April 1, 11 a.m.-Noon CT, NRG Stadium) and the Latin America Select Game, on Sat., April 2, with tip time set for Noon at the George R. Brown Convention Center ââ’¬” Fan Fest.
