COLUMBIA, S.C. ââ’¬” South Carolina senior guard Tiffany Mitchell (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 First Team, the organization announced today. She is one of five selections now eligible for Academic All-America honors, recognizing the combination of excellence on the court and in the classroom.
A retail management major, Mitchell is making her second appearance on the Academic All-District team this season. She has been on the University of South Carolina President’s List the last two semesters, which recognizes students with a 4.00 GPA for the semester.
Mitchell, the 22-1 Gamecocks’ back-to-back SEC Player of the Year, has continued to impact the game on both ends of play this season. The 2014-15 first team All-American built her reputation on excelling in several areas of the floor, and that versatility continues to come through, especially in SEC play, as she ranks among the league’s top 10 in five categories and comes in 12th in another in league games. Her 15.1 points per SEC game are sixth as are her 2.0 steals per game. She is fourth in field goal percentage (.427) and third in free throw percentage (.814), and her 1.4 3s per game rank 10th. Mitchell is 12th with 2.8 assists per game. The recipient of the 2015 Dawn Staley Award, Mitchell was recognized as the most outstanding guard in the country during her junior campaign. The high scoring Mitchell is currently ranked eighth on the Gamecocks’ all-time scoring list at 1,697 points in her career.
No. 2/2 South Carolina (22-1, 10-0 SEC) returns to conference play for its next game, taking on No. 16/19 Florida at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11 on SEC Network +.
