South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Susan Walvius announced Monday the addition of former WNBA player and former University of Tennessee guard Michelle Marciniak to her Gamecock women’s basketball coaching staff. Marciniak will work with the Gamecock guards and assist with South Carolina’s recruiting efforts.
On Monday, Marciniak announced her retirement from the Seattle Storm Monday after a six-year career in the WNBA and ABL.
During her three years at the University of Tennessee, Marciniak led the Lady Vols to a National Championship in 1996, a 1995 Final Four appearance and two SEC championships.
“I am excited to be a part of a program that I believe has the ingredients to win a National Championship,” said Marciniak. “Head Coach Susan Walvius has done such a great job of bringing South Carolina into the national spotlight in a very short period of time. I have a great deal of respect for Coach Walvius’ knowledge of the game, how she runs her program and how she treats her players. I look forward working with Coach Walvius and her staff. I am especially excited to share my SEC and professional playing experiences with the players and helping them develop into the very best.”
“We’re very excited about Michelle Marciniak joining our Gamecock coaching staff,” said South Carolina head coach Susan Walvius. “She will bring tremendous collegiate and professional basketball experience to our team. I have been impressed with her drive and commitment in helping South Carolina’s achieve our goal of competing for a National Championship.”
