Porsche European Open Leaderboard

BAD GRIESBACH, Germany – South Carolina men’s golfer Will Starke opened played at the Porsche European Open on Thursday, firing a 2-over (73) at Golf Resort Bad Griesbach. The senior standout currently stands nine strokes off the lead.

Starke, who is competing as an amateur, started his round on hole No. 10 and carded three birdies on the day on the 7,188-yard par-71 course. After making the turn at 1-over (37), the Chapin, S.C., native birdied No. 1 and finished his day with a birdie on the par-four ninth.

Starke’s 2-over performance on Thursday matched Max Rottluff, the other collegiate amateur in this week’s field. Benjamin Hebert and Bernd Wiesberger sit atop the leaderboard after opening the tournament with a 7-under 64.

Notable names in the field at Resort Bad Griesbach include two-times Masters champion Bernhard Langer and six-time PGA Tour winner Hunter Mahan.

Starke is back on the course on Friday when he once again tees off with Florian Fritsch and Daniel Gaunt. The threesome’s tee time is set for 2:50 a.m. ET (8:50 a.m. local).
