COLUMBIA, S.C. – Junior Lindsey Wilson and Senior Michelle Jenkins will progress to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Nationals after winning their classes at the Zone 5 Finals this past weekend, held at Georgia Southern University. Wilson, the only double qualifier to progress to Zones won novice over fences and just missed qualifying for Novice flat with a third place finish. To progress to the National Championship, you must place first or second at Zones.
Jenkins won walk/trot to continue her winning streak in the division. Freshman Courtney Borton and sophomore Kerrie Reeves also just missed qualifying for IHSA Nationals by finishing third in Open Horsemanship and Advanced Horsemanship, respectively.
“It was very frustrating to have three miss qualifying by one place,” Coach Boo Duncan said. “They all rode extremely well so we couldn’t be disappointed in their performances. I am very proud of all of them.”
Junior Lisa Boykin placed sixth in Novice Fences and Sophomore Molly Harrison was also sixth in Intermediate Flat. The IHSA National Finals will be held May 2-4 at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN.
The Lady Gamecocks will next compete in the Varsity Equestrian Championship at Texas A&M on April 18, “Everyone rode exceptionally well this weekend even though not everyone qualified to go on. Michelle and I are excited about representing South Carolina and Nationals in Texas.” said Intermediate Flat and Novice Fences rider Lindsey Wilson.
