COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 2 South Carolina continues SEC action on Saturday, when the Gamecocks face No. 6 Texas A&M at the Hildebrand Equine Complex in College Station. Saturday’s meet will begin at Noon ET (11 a.m. CT) and marks the Gamecocks’ final regular season road meet of the year.

“We’re looking forward to what will be a very exciting SEC meet on Saturday,” South Carolina head coach Boo Major said. “Tana (McKay) and her team are 5-0 at home this season and that says a lot about the talent they have. With the exception of our first meet of the season, I think we have performed very well on the road against some tough teams. One of the keys for us on Saturday will be staying focused and taking it one ride at a time. We’ve had a good couple of weeks of practice and hopefully we can carry that over to Saturday.”

LAST MEETING
South Carolina won the first meet of the home-and-home series with Texas A&M, defeating the Aggies, 12-8, on Halloween. The hunt seat team won 8-2, led by a pair of 4-1 wins by the equitation over fences and equitation on the flat teams. Adele Norton (equitation on the flat) and Katherine Schmidt (equitation over fences) combined to sweep the hunt seat MVP awards. The western team lost, 6-4, as the horsemanship and reining squads both lost three-of-five points to the Aggies. Junior Kelsey Urban was named horsemanship MVP.

LAST MEETING IN COLLEGE STATION
South Carolina’s only outright loss last season came in a 10-9 decision at Texas A&M on Oct. 25, 2013. The hunt seat team won 6-4, as the equitation on the flat team picked up a 4-1 victory. Then-juniors Alexa Anthony (equitation on the flat) and Katherine Schmidt (equitation over fences) both earned MVP honors. Carolina’s western team lost, 6-3, as then-senior Johnna Letchworth earned MVP honors in reining.

LUCKY SEVEN
The Gamecocks are currently on a seven-meet winning streak. After losing its first two competitions of the season, Carolina has won seven meets in a row.

ROAD WARRIORS
South Carolina is 4-1 on the road this season. After losing the season opener at Kansas State, the Gamecocks have won four straight on the road – three of which have come against teams that made the semifinals at last year’s national championship (Auburn, Oklahoma State, Georgia).

SCORING RECORD
This year, the Gamecocks have set a team record by winning at least 11 points in six straight meets. Last year’s 15-3 team went on a pair of four-meet streaks in which the Gamecocks scored 11 or more points, but failed to extend the streak in the fifth meet both times.

SENIOR STANDARD
This year, three Gamecocks boast perfect 5-0 road records, all of whom are seniors. Layla Choate (reining), Amber Henter (equitation over fences), and Katherine Schmidt (equitation on the flat) are all perfect on the road this season. Schmidt also has a 4-1 road record in equitation over fences, giving her a team-high nine road victories this season.

WHEN IT COUNTS
Through four SEC meets this season, four Gamecocks remain with perfect records in conference action, all of whom are seniors. Amber Henter (equitation over fences), Katherine Schmidt (equitation over fences), Sam Chiodo (horsemanship), and Layla Choate (reining) are all 4-0 in SEC action in their respective events this season. Schmidt also has a 3-1 conference record in equitation on the flat, giving her a team-high seven SEC victories this season. Henter is 1-1 in equitation on the flat, giving her five conference wins so far this year.

NEXT UP
After Saturday’s meet against the Aggies, the Gamecocks return home to Blythewood for their final two competitions of the regular season. Carolina will host No. 5 Auburn on Feb. 28 and No. 1 Baylor on March 6. The South Carolina-Auburn meet on Feb. 28 will serve as the team’s senior day, along with the Gamecocks’ annual Equifest Kids Day meet.
