COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina equestrian coach Boo Major on Monday announced the signing of western rider Bridgett White (Canal Winchester, Ohio/Pickerington High School Central) to a National Letter of Intent to join the Gamecocks for the 2015-16 season. White will be competing on South Carolina’s reining team.
White chose South Carolina over Georgia and Baylor.
“We want to welcome Bridgett White to our team for next year, and we’re looking forward to having her join us,” Major said. “She started out as an all-around rider in the AQHA and then really focused on reining, and has been winning ever since. She’s gotten some good mileage in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association, and that experience will help her tremendously when she arrives on campus later this summer.”
White trains with Shawn Flarida and Cienzo Santos.
Since she began showing in the National Reining Horse Association, White has found instant success. She made her reining debut at the OVRHA Affiliate Show in Jackson, Ohio in June of last year, winning the Rookie Level 1 & 2. Later that month at the NRHA Derby Show in Oklahoma City, she won the Rookie Level 1 & 2 with a score of 140. In July, White competed at the Clayton Woosley Hall of Fame Reining Show in Kentucky, winning the Green with a score of 70.5. At the All American Quarter Horse Congress in October, she finished 10th in the Limited Non-Pro, earning a score of 210. She went on to win the reserve championship in the Rookie after posting a score of 213.5.
Prior to showing in the NRHA, White competed in the AQHA, winning multiple titles in horsemanship, hunter under saddle, equitation, trail, western pleasure, and showmanship.
White currently competes on the IEA team at Claypool Ranch.
A senior at Pickerington High School Central, White has been on the Distinguished Honor Roll her entire career. She was also involved with the Key Club and a member of the Student Council. White was voted Homecoming Queen in 2014.
Her parents are Dave and Vicki White, and she has two older brothers, Mitch and Lance.
