CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – South Carolina senior Justine Dreher took second at the 84th Dixie Amateur after a three-hole playoff. Dreher carded rounds of 73-69-68-74 for a four-round total of 284 (-4), but fellow French native Mathilda Cappeliez birdied the third playoff hole to take medalist honors. The first 54 holes took place at the Heron Bay Golf Club before the final round of the 72-hole stroke play event was contested at TPC Eagle Trace today.

After posting a 73 (+1) in the first round, Dreher hit the course two strokes back the next day and promptly carded a 3-under 69 to jump to third place. In the third round, the Gamecock made her move, firing a 68 (-4) to surge ahead of LSU junior and 36-hole leader Elise Bradley. Dreher was four strokes behind Bradley entering the day, and finished with a two-shot edge at 6-under par.

In today’s final round, Dreher posted a 2-over 74 to finish at 4-under overall. Cappeliez recorded a birdie on the 18th hole to draw even and force the playoff. After both players shot par on the first two holes of the playoff, Cappeliez birdied the third to take the title.

The Gamecocks’ first tournament of 2015 will be the Florida State Match-Up (Feb. 13-15, 2015) at the Southwood Golf Course in Tallahassee, Fla. South Carolina won the 2014 Florida State Match-Up.
