JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Four minutes into overtime, East Tennessee State (4-2) got the golden goal from Jorge De Gyves to take the contest 2-1 from South Carolina (3-3).

With the Buccaneers attacking, De Gyves drove the ball left for him by Jeremy Saad across the goal past the diving Gamecock goalkeeper to close the match. It’s De Gyves’ first goal of the season.

The scoring all came in the last 12 minutes of play, with ETSU taking the initial lead in the 83rd when Emmanuel Wilson polished off the rebound from Saad’s shot saved moments earlier by SC’s netminder for his first goal of the season. The elation from the Bucs’ goal turned to sighs soon after, as in the 87th minute a Gamecock sent a ball high into the air and an ETSU defender had it deflect off the back of his head and over the goal line to knot the match at 1-1 on the own goal.

Gamecock sophomore Marco Velez made four saves in the contest, a couple coming on diving tries on ETSU strikes that came with great pace. ETSU’s Daniel Adelman posted three saves in the victory.

South Carolina had two shots hit the post in the first half, including a header by senior defender Mahamoudou Kaba in the 45th minute. Sophomore defender Ive Burnett also clanged one off the frame in the 19th.

Game Changer:
The Buccaneers pressed on offense more in the second half, getting more looks at goal than the Gamecocks.

Key Stat:
ETSU tallied eight shots to South Carolina’s five in the final 49 minutes of play.

Notables:

• ETSU had a 13-11 advantage in shots and a 6-4 lead in shots on goal
• South Carolina took seven corner kicks to ETSU’s three, including five in the second half.
• Six Gamecocks went the distance, matching the six Buccaneers to play all 93:22.
• Sophomore midfielder Kurtis Turner ranked as one of three Gamecocks with two shots, putting both of his on goal.
