COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina men’s golf team moved up two spots to No. 10 in the Golf Coaches Association of America Coaches Poll, the GCAA announced Friday.

The Gamecocks made the move in the poll after placing in the top five in two of their first three fall events, including a huge tournament win. After finishing sixth at The Carmel Cup to open the season, Carolina came back against one of the toughest fields in collegiate golf to capture the program’s first Carpet Capital Collegiate title by a stroke over second-ranked Georgia Tech. The field also included defending national champion Alabama, No. 5 LSU and rival Clemson.

Carolina then finished fourth at the DICK’S Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup, a tournament that featured six teams from the SEC and six from the ACC, and defeated No. 13 Virginia in match play, 3-2.

Including the Gamecocks, a total of six SEC schools are ranked in the GCAA poll. LSU and Vanderbilt are tied at No. 5, followed by Georgia at No. 7, Alabama at No. 14 and Auburn and No. 19.

Carolina will host the Camden Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 18-19 to wrap up its fall schedule. The 54-hole event will be held at Camden Country Club in Camden, S.C.
