TULSA, Okla. – South Carolina senior Andrew Adams faced a tough draw in the ITA Men’s All-American Championships, falling in the first round of the main draw to the No. 15 player in the nation in three sets on a rainy Thursday afternoon at Case Tennis Center. Adams’ entry directly into the main draw of the fall’s most prestigious event was the second straight for the Gamecocks.

No. 25 Adams drew an extremely familiar opponent in No. 15 Shane Vinsant of Texas A&M in the first round, the third meeting between the two in the last eight months. Adams and Vinsant squared off most recently 10 days ago in a consolation match at the SEC Fall Classic in Gainesville, Fla. Vinsant won that match in three sets, leaving Adams looking for redemption.

Thursday’s rematch saw Vinsant eke out the first set 6-4, but Adams fought back. A service break put him up 4-3 in the second, and he surged through the next two games for a 6-3 victory. In the final set, Vinsant moved in front 3-1 and continued to hold Adams at bay down the stretch for the 6-3 win that moved him into the next round of play.

The Gamecocks return to the courts in two weeks at the ITA Carolina Regional in Cary, N.C., on Oct. 16-20.
