REUNION, Fla. – Led by senior Justine Dreher’s second-straight round of 68 (-4), South Carolina tops the field with a two-round score of 572 (-4). The Gamecocks shot a 2-over 290 on the second day of competition at the inaugural ANNIKA Intercollegiate at the Reunion Resort’s Watson Course.

After sharing the top spot on the leaderboard yesterday, Dreher now has sole possession. The Gamecock has carded an 8-under two-day total of 136. Duke’s Leona Maguire surged 18 spots to second place at 6-under after posting the low round of the tournament at 66 (-6).

Both junior Mary Fran Hillow and freshman Nanna Madsen are tied for 12th at even-par 144. Hillow carded her second-straight round of 72 (E) while Madsen shot a 3-over 75 today.

Sophomore Jia Xin Yang finished the second round 4-over with a score of 76, giving her a two-day total of 149 (+5) to tie for 40th. Sophomore Katelyn Dambaugh posted a better day than yesterday, carding a 3-over 75. Dambaugh is tied for 52nd with a score of 153 (+9).

Arizona, yesterday’s leader, is just one stroke behind the Gamecocks at 3-under (573).

Justine Dreher leads the field with 10 birdies, recording five in each round of the tournament.

NOTABLES

• Only three of the field’s 12 teams are under par after two rounds, South Carolina (-4), Arizona (-3) and Northwestern (-1).
• For the second day in a row, Dreher played the front nine bogey free. The lone bogey of Dreher’s day came on the par-4 No. 18.
• Dreher still holds the top spot in par-5 scoring, shooting 6-under over the two rounds.

Conditions were a bit tougher today. It was windy on the back nine and there were tougher pin positions. Justine’s play has been exceptional! Her wedge play has been really strong, and she is taking advantage of the par 5s. It should be a fun battle tomorrow with several teams in contention. However, I do feel very confident in our group. They are well prepared and all five are playing steadily.
