KARUIZAWA, Japan – Gamecock freshman Nanna Madsen saved her best round for last, firing a four-under 68 in the final round at the 2014 Women’s World Amateur Team Championship on Saturday to lead her home country of Denmark to a fourth-place finish.

The Copenhagen native carded rounds of 69, 72, 20 and 68 to finish the event at nine-under-par. Denmark finished at 20-under-par (556). The Gamecock helped pull Denmark from 11th place on the second day of competition to its fourth-place result.

Australia won the title with a 29-under-par performance (547), with Canada (549), Republic of Korea (550), Denmark (556), Sweden (557) and the United States (557) rounding out the top five.

Fifty countries competed in the 72-hole event, bringing a team of three golfers to play four 18-hole rounds at the Oshitate and Iriyama Courses. In each round, the total of the two lowest scorers by players from each team constituted the team score for that round. The four-day total was the team’s score for the championship.

The Gamecocks open their season at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate in Reunion, Fla., Sept. 28-30.
