Starke Finishes Tied for Fifth at Carolinas Amateur

GREENVILLE, S.C. — South Carolina junior Will Starke fired a final-round 68 (-4) on Sunday at Greenville Country Club to finish tied for fifth at the 100th Carolinas Amateur Championship.
Starke wrapped up the event with a 72-hole total of 286 (-2) to finish three strokes back of first place. A native of Chapin, S.C., Starke carded rounds of 74, 70 and 74 in the first three rounds before making a move into the top 10 with his 68 on Sunday.
The championship, which is conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association, had a field of 144 golfers from North and South Carolina.
NESMITH, HUSKEY COME UP SHORT OF TOP 20 AT THE PLAYERS AMATEUR
At Bluffton, S.C., South Carolina junior Matt NeSmith and incoming freshman Keenan Huskey fell just short of top-20 finishes at The Players Amateur on Sunday at Berkeley Hall Club.
NeSmith finished tied for 21st with a 72-hole total of 286 (-2) after shooting a final-round 76 (+4), while Huskey tied for 24th with a total of 287 (-1), following an even-par 72 on Sunday.
