South Carolina Women's Golf Announces Schedule for 2014-15
Aug. 4, 2014
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina head women’s golf coach Kalen Harris released the Gamecocks’ schedule for the 2014-15 season on Monday.
As they have in each of Harris’ seven seasons at the helm of the program, the Gamecocks will play one of the toughest schedules in the country. South Carolina has four tournaments slated for the fall, followed by four in the spring.
“We have a very demanding tournament schedule again this season,” Harris said of the 2014-15 slate. “We will regularly compete against the top teams in the country and very deep fields, which will best prepare us for the postseason.”
The Gamecocks made their fifth-straight appearance in the NCAA Championship in 2014 and are one of just seven teams with the streak. South Carolina had one of the best regular seasons in program history with seven-straight top-five finishes. They went on to continue that success in the postseason, claiming second place at both the SEC Championship and the NCAA East Regional. Harris’ squad finished 13th at the NCAA Championship.
To open the 2014-15 season, the Gamecocks travel to Reunion, Fla., for the debut of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate at the Reunion Resort’s Watson Course. Created by Annika Sorenstam, the tournament is billed as a high-profile kickoff to the college golf season and is set to feature 12 of the nation’s top women’s squads.
On Oct. 10-12, the Gamecocks make their 10th consecutive trip to the Tar Heel Invitational at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. The tournament starts a busy October for Harris’ team, as they travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to play in the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship at the Cherokee Golf Club Oct. 17-19. Next, South Carolina closes out the fall schedule at The Landfall Tradition at the Country Club of Landfall on Oct. 24-26.
For the second season in a row, South Carolina opens their spring at the Florida State Match-Up Feb. 13-15 at the SouthWood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla.
The weekend of March 6-8, the Gamecocks host the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate for the fourth straight year at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The event has become one of the premiere golf tournaments in all of collegiate golf, drawing highly ranked teams from all across the country.
South Carolina wraps up the month of March at the 42nd Annual Liz Murphey Intercollegiate, where schools in the field have claimed 13 of 15 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf championships during the 2000s. The competition is set for March 27-29 at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
The Gamecocks are set to tune-up for postseason play at the PING ASU Invitational on April 10-12 at the ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.
The 2014 SEC Championship will be contested on April 17-19 at the Greystone Golf Club in Birmingham, Ala. NCAA Regionals are scheduled for May 7-9 at four sites – Lonnie Poole Golf Course – Raleigh, N.C., Briggs Ranch Golf Club – San Antonio, Texas, Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club – St. George, Utah and Warren Golf Course – South Bend, Ind.
