Gamecocks Receive Bid to NCAA East Regional

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s golf team has been selected to play in the NCAA East Regional on May 8-10, the NCAA announced Monday night. The 54-hole event will be held at the SouthWood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Gamecocks, who are currently No. 5 in Golfstat rankings, received the No. 2 seed in the East Regional. South Carolina is making their 16th consecutive regional appearance and will compete for the program’s third regional title and a berth to the NCAA Championship against a field of 24 teams. Six individuals will also compete in the regional. Eight teams and two individuals from each of the three regional sites will advance to the NCAA Championship.

South Carolina is one of 12 SEC teams to receive a bid and one of five in the East Regional. Of the 24 teams in the East Regional 14 are ranked in the Golfstat Top-50, including No. 3 Duke, No. 9 Stanford, No. 12 Vanderbilt, No. 14 Pepperdine, No. 17 UCF, No. 20 Virginia, No. 23 Auburn, No. 24 NC State, No. 31 Kentucky, No. 32 Florida State, No. 34 Tulane, No. 38 Louisville, No. 40 Baylor and No. 44 East Tennessee State. Georgia, Campbell, East Carolina, Texas State, College of Charleston, Troy, Murray State, Seton Hall and Alabama State round out the field.

Under the leadership of head coach Kalen Harris, the Gamecocks won the program’s first-ever regional title in 2010 and took another title home in 2012.

This year marks the 21st overall NCAA Regional appearance for the Gamecocks. South Carolina has advanced to the NCAA Championship 13 times, including five during Harris’ tenure.
