BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. – The State of South Carolina recently recognized the Gamecock equestrian team and the Town of Blythewood with a permanent interstate marker on I-77 in Blythewood. The marker is located at Exit 27.

The sign welcomes travelers to Blythewood, officially designating the town as the “home of the University of South Carolina Equestrian Team.”

“On behalf of the Blythewood community, we are proud to host the top-ranked South Carolina equestrian team,” state senator Joel Lourie said. “With this sign on the interstate, we can now show our enthusiasm to the rest of the world.”

“We congratulate coach Boo Major, her staff, and the student-athletes on the South Carolina equestrian team on a fine season,” said Blythewood mayor Mike Ross. “We’re proud the team considers Blythewood their home, and we were proud to see the Gamecocks win their second straight SEC Championship trophy here in town.”

Senator Lourie presented a smaller keepsake version of the sign to the team and the town last week.

Chartered in 1879, the Town of Blythewood is located along I-77 between exits 24 and 27 and is now home to over 2,000 residents.
