Gamecocks Finish in Fifth Place at Darius Rucker Intercollegiate

The South Carolina women’s golf team shot a 12-over 296 on Sunday at Long Cove Club and finished the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in fifth place, which is the highest ever finish for the Gamecocks at this tournament.
Duke claimed first place with a total score of 862 (+10) and Vanderbilt finished in second place carding an 872 (+20). Oklahoma and LSU finished with scores of 885 (+33) to tie for third place. South Carolina finished just one stroke behind Oklahoma and LSU with a total score of 886 (+34).
Junior Justine Dreher and senior Samantha Swinehart both fired a 1-over 72 in the final round to finish with total scores of 219(+6) and 220 (+7), respectively. Dreher finished in a tie for 12th place while Swinehart tied for 15th place.
Freshman Katelyn Dambaugh and sophomore Sarah Schmelzel both carded a 5-over 76 in the third round. Dambaugh tied for 15th place with a score of 220 (+7) while Schmelzel finished the tournament in a tie for 42nd place with a score of 227 (+14).
Freshman Jia Xin Yang tied for 68th place with a total score of 233 (+20) after shooting a 9-over 80 in the final round.
Competing as individuals, Suzie Lee and Mary Fran Hillow finished the tournament in 54th and 80th place, respectively. Lee carded a final-round 77 (+6), giving her a total score of 230 (+17). Hillow shot her best round of the tournament on Sunday as she turned in a 4-over 75 to finish with a score of 238 (+25).
Yu Liu of Duke beat out Caroline Nistrup of LSU in a playoff to win the individual championship after the pair finished the day with a total score of 211 (-2).
The Gamecocks will be back in action March 28-30 as they travel to Greensboro, N.C. for the Bryan National Collegiate.
