Gamecock Equestrian Ranked No. 1 in Nation for 14th Straight Week
March 4, 2014
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina equestrian team is ranked No. 1 in the country for the 14th straight week, it was announced today. The Gamecocks have been ranked No. 1 since Dec. 2, 2013.
Not counting the mid-season break that takes up parts of December and January, the Gamecocks have officially been ranked No. 1 in the last six NCEA Rankings releases. That six week stretch breaks the record set by the South Carolina baseball team during the 2000 season, when the Gamecocks were ranked No. 1 by Baseball America for five straight weeks (April 17 through May 15).
Carolina (10-2, 4-2 SEC) is on a six-meet winning streak and coming off a 12-7 victory over then-No. 2 Auburn on Saturday. With the win on Saturday, South Carolina clinched the No. 1 seed for the SEC Championships, which will take place March 28-29 at One Wood Farm in Blythewood.
The Gamecocks return to action this Saturday, when South Carolina travels to Martin, Tenn. to face the UT-Martin Skyhwaks in the regular season finale.
