COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina junior defender Mahamoudou Kaba has earned NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) All-South Second Team honors, as announced by the organization today. This is the first-career selection for the Ypsilanti, Mich., native.

In the history of South Carolina soccer, 46 student-athletes have combined for 71 NSCAA Regional honors, and at least one student-athlete has garnered an All-South award in every season since the 1983 campaign.

A dominant force on set pieces, Kaba scored a team-leading five goals this season. The defender posted his first career goal against rival Clemson in the second game of the season. In a three game stretch that featured Charlotte, Presbyterian and Tulsa, Kaba netted a goal in each match. Against Charlotte, Kaba scored the equalizer to help the Gamecocks come from behind for a 2-1 victory on the road. Just four days later, he recorded the first multi-goal game of his career and scored his first game-winning tally against Presbyterian. An imposing central defender, Kaba has played a crucial role in the Gamecocks’ six shutouts, including three in league play.

Earlier this postseason, Kaba was selected to the All-Conference USA First Team.
