Gamecock Equestrian on Facebook
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina head equestrian coach Boo Major received a contract extension at today’s Board of Trustees meeting, it was announced. Major’s new contract now runs through the end of the 2016-2017 academic year.
Major is one of three Gamecock head coaches that received new contracts on Monday. Curtis Frye (track and field) and McGee Moody (swimming & diving) also had new contracts approved.
“I am proud of how our athletic teams have competed on the national level and in the Southeastern Conference,” said Athletics Director Ray Tanner. “These contracts are indicative of the commitment that the University has to our coaches in their efforts to compete for championships.”
Major, who just completed her 15th season as the Gamecocks’ head coach, led South Carolina to the inaugural SEC Championship in March. Major also guided the Gamecocks to national championships in 2005 and 2007. During that stretch, South Carolina’s Hunt Seat team won three straight national championships (2005, 2006, 2007) and finished second overall in 2006. Major was named SEC Coach of the Year this past season.
“I want to thank Dr. Pastides, the Board of Trustees, Coach Tanner, and Charles Bloom for their continued support of our equestrian program,” Major said. “We have a terrific group of student-athletes that commit themselves to excellence in the classroom and in the arena. Winning the SEC Championship this year and posting one of our highest ever team GPA’s are two major accomplishments, and I am proud of the program we have at the University of South Carolina.”
