COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina senior Dykes Harbin and freshman Matt NeSmith have been named to the 2013 PING All-Southeast Region Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Tuesday.
Harbin and NeSmith have played key roles in the Gamecocks’ run through the postseason, which includes a runner-up finish at the SEC Championship and a tie for second finish at the NCAA Columbus Regional that punched the team’s ticket to this week’s NCAA Championship.
A native of Augusta, Ga., Harbin has played in every tournament this season and ranks second on the team and 20th in the SEC with a scoring average of 72.94. The second-team All-SEC selection is tied for second on the squad with six top-20 finishes and had a pair of top-five showings, including a win at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic.
NeSmith, a native of North Augusta, S.C., was named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Year and made the SEC All-Freshman Team. He led the Gamecocks in scoring with an average of 72.85, which ranks 18th in the SEC. He has recorded a team-high nine top-20 finishes. He has finished in the top-10 on seven occasions, which is tied for the second most all-time in a single season at South Carolina. He posted a career-best tie for second finish to lead the Gamecocks at the NCAA Columbus Regional.
