COLUMBIA, S.C. – University of South Carolina guard Tiffany Mitchell (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors, the league announced today, after scoring in double figures in all three games last week to finish with 13.0 points per game over the stretch. It is the first such recognition of her career.

Mitchell has started every game this season, including all three last week for her offensive impact right out of the gate. Her contributions have helped the Gamecocks to a 4-0 start to the season, the program’s first since 2002-03.

In three games last week, Mitchell added 6.3 rebounds per game to her 13.0 scoring average, hitting 48.5 percent from the field. She tied for game-high honors with 16 points against Clemson, shooting 63.6 percent from the field. Five of her nine second-half points in that game came consecutively during an early 10-2 run right out of the locker room. Mitchell pulled down five or more rebounds in each game last week, led by eight at Louisiana Tech, which tied her for team-high honors.

South Carolina on the road this week, traveling to the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam for three games over Thanksgiving weekend. South Carolina will take on Hampton, Florida Gulf Coast and DePaul on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. respectively.
