Columbia, S.C. – After day one of the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., the University of South Carolina stands in eighth place with a two-round score of 584. The event is being played at the par 72 and 6895-yard Sawgrass Country Club course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Augusta State was the only team to score under par in both rounds on Monday, and stands in first place by 10 shots. They hold a 10-shot lead over Oklahoma State, who currently stands in second. Clemson and Florida are tied for third at 577.
On pace for his fourth top 10 finish of the season, Eirik Johansen fired two-under par 142 (69-73) to lead the Gamecocks during day one. Johansen is in ninth place, while teammate, Alex Hamilton stands in 20th. Hamilton shot one-over-par 145 (73-72).
Martin Rominger registered 146 to place 27th. Redshirt freshman West Streib posted a two-round total of 151 to land in a tie for 57th. Rounding out the five-man squad is Michael Maness. Maness shot 81 and 87 for a total of 168.
Due to rain throughout the state on Sunday, teams were unable to practice as scheduled. The Mercedes-Benz Collegiate concludes on Tuesday, Feb. 18 with tee times beginning at 7:00 a.m.
