COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina senior Ieasia Walker was named to the SEC Women’s Basketball Community Service Team, the league announced today. In addition to working various basketball camps, Walker takes a specific interest in helping youth in Columbia and in her hometown of Amityville, N.Y.
Walker has visited Palmetto Children’s Hospital and Carolina Children’s Home and assisted at St. Andrews Vacation Bible School. She has worked with her teammates to adopt families each Christmas, participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s the last two years and hosted various youth through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Walker has also spent time at the MLK Day Red Cross Telethon, Bingo Night at Christopher Towers, the University’s Good Bodies summer program and helping with the SEC Canned Food Drive.
In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, the SEC named its Community Service Team for women’s basketball for the 15th season. All league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men’s and women’s sports being chosen from 1999 to 2003.
