COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina equestrian program has announced the signing of Hunt Seat rider Erin Fry (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona del Mar High School) to a National Letter of Intent. Fry will join the Southern Equestrian Champion Gamecocks for the 2012-2013 season.
“We are excited to have such a great rider come from the west coast to South Carolina,” Hunt Seat coach Carol Gwin said. “Erin has tons of mileage in the hunter and equitation rings and has competed in most of the major medal finals. She is also an excellent scholar and will be an asset to our team academically as well.”
Fry trains with Robyn Stiegler at Citrus Hill Farms, a premium show barn located in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. Under Stiegler’s guidance, Fry has had a successful youth career, including wins in the USEF Hunt Seat Medal, ASPCA Maclay, WIHS, and USEF Talent Search Medal shows.
In 2011, she was a Maclay National Finalist and a USEF Hunt Seat National Finalist. She won first place at the Interscholastic Equestrian League Varsity Medal, and captured an eighth place finishing at the USEF Hunt Seat Regional Final. She also claimed a top-15 finish at the CPHA Junior Finals.
She had an equally successful year in 2010, where she was a Maclay National Finalist, while earning an eighth place finish at the USEF Hunt Seat Regional Final. 2010 also saw her capture a Top-15 finish at the CPHA Junior Finals, a feat she would repeat one year later.
Fry recently graduated from Corona del Mar High School in Newport Beach, Calif., where she twice served as captain of her equestrian team, where she was a three-time letter winner. She also volunteers at the Shea Therapeutic Riding Center, a facility dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities through a series of horse-related programs.
On top of her riding credentials, Fry is an accomplished student, having made the honor roll every year during high school.
Fry will be a business major in the Darla Moore School of Business. The Darla Moore School of Business is ranked No. 1 in undergraduate international business education by U.S.News & World Report in its September 2012 annual survey “America’s Best Colleges Guide” — the 15th year the school has received this distinction. The University of South Carolina’s international business faculty has been rated #1 in research productivity by the Journal of International Business Studies.
Born May 25, 1994 to parents Chuck and Nancy Fry, Erin Fry has one sister, Lindsey (22). Before signing with South Carolina, Fry also considered Georgia and Texas Christian University.
