Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina men’s golf team begins the spring season this weekend when they travel to New Orleans, La. for the Tulane Invitational. The practice round will be held on Sunday, Feb. 9, followed by two rounds of action on Monday, Feb. 10 and one round on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
The English Turn Golf & Country Club will host the inaugural event. The Enlgish Turn Golf & Country Club is a Jack Nicklaus designed golf course that hosts the PGA Tour’s Annual Compaq Classic.
Other teams participating in the tournament are Tulane, New Orleans, Southeastern Conference foe Tennessee, Southern Miss, Southeastern Louisiana, SMU, East Tennessee State and Wake Forest.
Representing the Gamecocks in Louisiana are Alex Hamilton, Eirik Johansen, Michael Maness, Martin Rominger and West Streib. Streib led the team during the 2002 fall season with a 73.3 stroke average. Maness and Johansen both posted two top 10 finishes during fall competition. Rominger notched one top 10 finish.
As a team, South Carolina registered two top five finishes this past fall. The Gamecocks finished fourth in the prestigious The Ridges tournament and finished third at the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate.
