COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina head volleyball coach Scott Swanson filled the opening on his staff today, hiring Amanda Brungs as the director of volleyball operations for the Gamecocks.

“I am thrilled to welcome Amanda to our volleyball program,” said Swanson. “She has the organizational skills to help our program in continuing the building process. Amanda’s experience with the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) over the past several years has prepared her to step in and direct the day-to-day operations of our program. We are excited to add another quality person to our staff who can handle a lot of responsibility with great professionalism.”

Brungs comes to Columbia after spending the past five years working for the AVCA in Lexington, Ky., where she was promoted twice. She managed many different events and aspects at the association, organizing the awards program for all levels and helping with the planning of the annual convention. She also coordinated television production and live elements of the Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match and Skills Competition. Brungs also helped with membership recruitment and retention, spearheading and managing the group’s Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship program.

While working at the AVCA, Brungs also served as a coach at the middle-school and club level, helping the Lexington (Ky.) United Volleyball Club and guiding the Jessie Clark Middle School team this past fall. Brungs also volunteered at Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Bluegrass, mentoring youth at local elementary schools.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join the South Carolina volleyball family!” said Brungs. “Coach Swanson and his staff have a determined vision of success, and I look forward to the opportunity to assist in those efforts.”

A graduate of Georgetown College, Brungs holds a bachelor’s degree in business marketing.

South Carolina’s volleyball team posted its second winning season in a decade in just the second year under Swanson. Spring practice begins next week, and the non-traditional competition schedule will be released at that time.
