COLUMBIA, S.C. – Gamecock Productions, comprised of director Paul Danna, associate director Justin Stoll, assistant director Marissa Kenney and student production assistants, has earned two Southeast Regional Emmy Awards, two College Sports Media Awards and one national honor from the National Broadcasting Society (NBS), while also collecting several honorable mention accolades for its outstanding work during the 2011-12 campaign. The awards were announced at industry conferences over the last week. Additionally, Kenney was awarded the NBS National Chapter Advisor of the Year.
“It is truly an honor for Gamecock Productions to be recognized with these outstanding awards,” Danna said. “Our staff – Justin, Marissa and our student production assistants, have shown amazing skill in their efforts to deliver the highest quality content possible for Gamecock fans. These awards wouldn’t be possible without the support of our administration, the coaching staffs and student-athletes, as well as the marketing and sports information departments for all of their assistance throughout the projects.
“All of our student production assistants, both past and future, are vital to our operations. Three outstanding seniors, Chelsea Parler, Angela Padgett and Courtney Krebs, earned their degrees this spring and will move on with their careers. This trio has made an everlasting impact on our department due to their sincere commitment and dedication to raise the level of student productions. These efforts not only resulted in their own awards, but have also set a standard for all future production assistants.”
The group earned two prestigious Southeast Regional Emmys, the first in the category of “Outstanding Achievement – Television News and Program Specialty Excellence – Sports, One Time Special” for the men’s basketball Gamecock Confidential “Back To Basics.” The highly popular “It’s Great To Be A Gamecock” series, promoting the 2011 record-setting football campaign, also earned an Emmy in the “Outstanding Achievement – Television Special Achievement Excellence – Commercial” category.
Sports Video Group (SVG) and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) join forces to name the College Sports Media Awards. The awards were announced at the organization’s annual conference last week in Atlanta. Gamecock Productions won awards in two categories, including in the “Collegiate Athletics, Promotion, PSA or Video Marketing Campaign” category for the “It’s Great To Be A Gamecock” campaign, while also earning the award in the same category for “Collegiate Students” for the “Gamecock Softball Intro.” The group also earned five honorable mention accolades, in the “Collegiate Athletics, Promotion, PSA or Video Marketing Campaign” category for the “2011-12 Men’s Basketball Intro” and in the “Special Feature” category for the “Welcome To Williams-Brice” and the “2011 Gamecock Football Highlight” videos. In the “Collegiate Student” division, the group earned honorable mentions in “Program Series” for the featured “Gamecock Spotlights” and for the “2011-12 Men’s Basketball Intro.”
The National Broadcasting Society is a national student/professional organization comprised of 85 chapters on campuses across the nation. NBS strives to provide student and professional interaction within the field of electronic media/broadcast. Until this year, the South Carolina chapter had been inactive for over 20 years. Over 500 entries for the 2011 Video/Audio Competition were submitted. Videos were judged by media professionals across the nation.
Gamecock Productions earned a national award in the “Video Open” category for the “2011 Women’s Soccer SEC Champs” video, which was worked on by production assistants Krebs, Parler and Steven Heyward. The team also collected several honorable mention nods, in “Music Video” for the “2011 Football Defensive Hype” by Cameron Widerman, in the “Sports Segment” category for the “Ray Tanner Show: Jake Williams Feature,” by Padgett, and in the same category the “Men’s Soccer vs. Elon Feature” by Parler. Heyward, Parler, Padgett and Krebs also collected an honorable mention award in the “Video Open” category for the “2011 Gamecock Confidential Softball Episode 3.” The group as a whole was named the National Rookie Chapter of the Year.
Earlier this spring Gamecock Productions was honored with seven Telly Awards for its work in 2011. The group won two Silver awards, the highest honor, and five Bronze awards for its work on Gamecock athletics.
