COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina equestrian team will head in to the mid-season break as the No. 1 team in the country, it was announced today.
In the most split coaches poll of the season, the Gamecocks held on to the top spot over Auburn, as Carolina received six of eleven first-place votes, while the Tigers received four first-place votes in the final coaches poll of the fall semester.
The Gamecocks likely held on to the top spot because of their 2-2 road record this season, with wins at Georgia and Texas A&M. Auburn competed on the road only once this season, a 10-9 decision won by South Carolina.
South Carolina is currently 4-2 overall and 3-0 in SEC play, as the Gamecocks are the only SEC school with a perfect conference record.
The next coaches poll will be released in the spring, once teams have returned to action.
