COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina women’s golf coach Kalen Harris announced the signing of Karoline Woie (Stavanger, Norway) to a National Letter of Intent for the 2012-13 season on Thursday.

Woie, who is set to join the Gamecocks after graduating from Wang Toppidrett High School in Stavanger, Norway this spring, will bring a wealth of international experience to the program.

“Karoline comes to us from the Norwegian national team,” Harris said. “She has experience playing tournaments throughout Europe. Karoline has an exceptional attitude and she is eager to take advantage of the opportunities and resources offered to her at Carolina. I am looking forward to being part of Karoline’s progress and success. Karoline will make a positive impact on our program.”

Woie became a member of the Norwegian national team in 2006 and has been ranked as high as No. 6 in the Norwegian Ladies rankings. She has also been ranked among the top 10 junior girls (13-19 years old) in 2011. Woie finished third in both the 2011 Norwegian Cup Borregaard Open and the 2011 Norwegian Girls’ team championship. She claimed fourth in both the 2011 Norwegian Championship and the 2011 Norwegian Ladies’ team championship. She also competed in the 2011 British Girls’ Championship. Woie has excelled as a student as well as she is currently in the top 10 percent of her graduating class.

Woie joins Sarah Schmelzel (Phoenix, Ariz.), Kaitlin Matheson (Easley, S.C.) and Mary Fran Hillow (Orlando, Fla.) to make up this year’s signing class. She becomes a part of a South Carolina program that is vying to make its fifth straight NCAA Regional appearance and fourth NCAA Championship appearance under Harris.
