COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s basketball sophomore guard Tina Roy had successful surgery on Wed., Aug. 15, to repair an ACL injury in her right knee. University of South Carolina Athletics medical director, Dr. Jeffrey Guy, performed the surgery at Palmetto Richland Hospital. There is no definitive timeline for Roy’s return to the Gamecock lineup.

“It is always disappointing when an injury happens to a player who was working so hard this summer to be a key contributor to our team this season,” South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley said. “Setbacks are part of the game, and our team will continue to focus on its goals while supporting Tina through her recovery. We’re confident there will be great things ahead for her.”

Roy played in 34 of the team’s 35 games during last season’s run into the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. She averaged 4.4 points and was second on the team in 3-pointers made with 32. Roy scored in double figures five times, peaking at the SEC Tournament, during which she averaged 8.7 points per game for the third-highest average on the team. A young sharp-shooter, she hit 3-of-5 from beyond the arc against Florida, including two in the final three minutes of the first half to build a 10-point lead at the break.
