Dallas, TX – No. 4 South Carolina picked up a 6-5 win over No. 9 SMU on Friday at BuckBranch Farm. The Gamecocks improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Mustangs fall to 5-2. The Gamecocks won both MVP’s, as Paige Dekko (Equitation Over Fences) and Colvin Hedgepeth (Equitation on the Flat) claimed top honors.

“I am proud of our girls for a hard fought road win,” South Carolina head coach Boo Major said. “We had some good rides and some challenging ones. I think we learned a lot today that will help us going forward. Hats off to SMU for a well-run competition. Their riders rode very well and we are happy to get this solid road victory.”

South Carolina started the day by taking four of six points in Equitation on the Flat. Senior captain Colvin Hedgepeth led the flat team on Friday as she was named MVP for her 72-62 win over her opponent. Junior Kimberly McCormack, sophomore Kelsey Hart, and freshman Amber Henter all won their points.

In Equitation Over Fences, the Gamecocks dropped two of three points. Dekko scored an 84 to defeat her SMU opponent, and freshman Catherine Pasmore picked up a three-point win over her opponent.

The Gamecocks return to action on Saturday when they travel to Las Cruces, N.M. to face New Mexico State.
