Postgame Quotes

South Carolina State Head Coach Cy Alexander

“It was a very well played game by both teams. Our defensive plan was to come to out and play a zone defense. That lasted about five minutes when we got down 16-0. We felt like we couldn’t let Howell, Kitchings, and Eidson hurt us. We felt like their inside game could go either way.”

“I’m very pleased with our defensive play. We played with Division 1 intensity tonight. If we keep playing like this we will be a very good basketball team come mid December. When we came out of the zone we adjusted very well. When we got down we had the confidence to stay in the game. We play seven more non-conference games on the road. If it makes us better by the time we start league play is what I’m looking for.”

About Chuck Eidson’s triple-double:

Chuck had a tremendous game. I have had the chance to watch him for the past four seasons. He has turned into a complete basketball player. He can pass, shoot, and defend.

South Carolina Head Coach Dave Odom:

“We got had a great start but we were not able to sustain it. South Carolina State took advantage of that and gave us a great run. Fortunately, we were able to pull together and grab the win.”

“Chuck Eidson had the game of his life today and Carlos Powell was very tough. Chris Warren played great defense while Marius Petravicius rebounded well. We need him to continue playing like that. We still need to get our younger players more playing time. We need them to be more ready.”

On Tony Kitchings’ Injury:

“I feel very bad for Tony. Tony broke two metacarpal bones in his left hand. We do not know how it will be treated or how long he will be out. The hand specialist will see him tomorrow before lunch. The best guess from the doctors here is that he will be out several weeks. We will have a clearer understanding of the situation once the specialist looks at it. Surgery is a possibility but it is not definite.”
