DAHLENOGA, Ga. – South Carolina junior Meredith Swanson and sophomore Samantha Swinehart are in a three-way tie for 23rd place after the first round of the 2nd Annual Hooters Women’s Collegiate Team Championship Presented by the National Golf Coaches Association. The Gamecock tandem sits in the middle of the 56-team field after shooting 76 in the alternate shot format of the first day of competition. Play at Achasta, by Reynolds in Dahlenoga, Ga., resumes on Wednesday using the best ball format. The event concludes on Thur., Aug. 4, with aggregate scoring of the two players on each team.

Starting on the back nine, South Carolina’s team opened with birdies on five of the first six holes. The tandem took an eight on the par-4 18th hole, however to make the turn at 1-under. The front nine gave the duo more challenges, yielding three bogeys and a double-bogey for its final score of 76. The Gamecocks’ score is eight off the lead of 68, shot by tandems from both Kentucky and Michigan State.

The Hooters Women’s Collegiate Team Championship is one of the most unique summertime national women’s amateur events. Two-person teams are comprised of top current women’s college golfers, pairing players from the same university in a 54-hole stroke play event.
