Knoxville, Tenn. – The 18th-ranked South Carolina (20-4, 13-1 SEC) volleyball team handed head coach Kim Christopher her 200th Carolina win as the Gamecocks swept the Tennessee Lady Vols (17-9, 6-7 SEC) 30-14, 30-13, 30-19 for the 3-0 victory. The Gamecocks held the Lady Vols to their lowest points scored for the season as UT combined for 46 points for the match. Niece Curry led the team with 13 kills and hit .684 while Cally Plummer followed with 11 kills and hit .500.
??We played great. Everything came together for us tonight,?? said Christopher. ??There was good leadership out there. Last year when we came here it was Tennessee??s night. Tonight it was ours. We were well prepared and played great.??
South Carolina dominated game one 30-14 as they held the Lady Vols to a .000 hitting average. Tennessee managed nine kills and nine errors while USC posted 17 kills and three errors. The Gamecocks led by as much as 26-9 and had two players hit above .600 in the game.
The Gamecocks took game two 30-13 and out hit the Lady Vols .444 to -.091. The 13 points scored by the Lady Vols is the second lowest game score South Carolina has allowed in an SEC match this season, and the lowest all season for the Lady Vols. At the break, Curry led the match with eight kills and a .533 hitting percentage.
The Lady Vols attempted a comeback in game three but was unsuccessful as the Gamecocks held Tennessee to 10 kills and a .024 hitting average. The Lady Vols?? previous match low was 48 points, which was posted against Florida last weekend.
The win also gives the Gamecocks their third straight 20-win season, eighth under Christopher. USC also earns their 13th SEC win, marking the most conference wins in a single season.
