COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley announced today that freshman Kayla Brewer has decided to leave the program, effective immediately.

“Kayla has made a decision that she feels is in her best interests at this time, and we wish her well,” Staley said. “That said, the coaching staff and our current players will continue to focus on becoming a better basketball team every day and on achieving the goals we have set out for ourselves this season.”

Brewer graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, Fla., a year early to join the Gamecock program for the 2010-11 season. She has played in seven of South Carolina’s eight games this season, averaging 13.9 minutes per game. She turned in 1.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. She turned in a season-best seven points and eight rebounds, including four offensive, at Penn State on Nov. 21.
