COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina sophomore Kimberly McCormack was named the 2010-2011 AgSouth Female Athlete of the Year, it was announced today. McCormack was recognized prior to Friday night’s baseball game at Carolina Stadium.

“What an honor it is for Kimberly to receive this award. She is a person that likes to succeed in everything she does and the folks that voted for her I’m sure are aware of that as well,” South Carolina head coach Boo Major said. “It is great for Kimberly and our equestrian team to get the recognition they work so hard to achieve. We have a truly special group of young female athletes at South Carolina who all deserve to be the AgSouth Female athlete of the year. I want to thank the people AgSouth for the recognition and for their support of our athletics department.”

For the second straight season, McCormack led the equestrian team in postseason and overall wins. Competing in both Equitation on the Flat and Equitation Over Fences, McCormack finished the 2010-2011 season with a team-high 17 wins. In the postseason, McCormack stepped up big for South Carolina, going 8-0-1 during competition. She has competed at the Varsity Equestrian National Championships during both of years as a Gamecock. At nationals, her career record is 10-0-1.

“Kimberly has had an up and down season this year but has continued to work hard win or lose. She really came through for us in post season this year and of course was named MVP in hunter seat for the entire national championship last year,” Major said. “Kimberly does all this while maintaining a 4.0 in geophysics. She is always a force to be reckoned with. I look forward to the contributions she will make next year.”

We have an excellent group of female athletes here at South Carolina, and it is very humbling to even be mentioned with this year’s nominees. I want to thank head coach Boo Major, Carol Gwin, and Ruth Sorrel for their leadership and coaching. I also want to thank my teammates for all of their support. We have an amazing group of girls on our team.”
