COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Lakeem Jackson, Brian Richardson and Malik Cooke scored 12 points each to lead South Carolina in a 74-61 victory over Delaware State on Wednesday night.
The Gamecocks (5-1) won their fourth straight game and finished with four players in double figures. Johndre Jefferson added a season-high 11 points.
South Carolina trailed 37-35 at the half, but opened the second by scoring the first seven points and never trailed again. The Hornets (2-3) trimmed the deficit to 42-41 but could not regain the lead thanks to the strong play of Jefferson.
Jefferson was scoreless in the first half, but chipped in 10 points during a 15-4 run that gave the Gamecocks a 69-52 lead late in the second half.
Delaware State’s Marques Oliver scored a season-high 21 points, but he fouled out with 8:43 remaining.
