South Carolina vs. Boston College Post-Game Quotes (1/1/11)

South Carolina Head Coach Darrin Horn
Opening Statement
This was a game that you know at the beginning of the first half, I thought we did a really good job in some areas that we needed to do a good job in…but, they got on a run and got some easy threes. We’ve got to learn to play through those stretches. I give Boston College credit. They’re a veteran team that is really good.

On keys to the game
The key is we knew we needed to defend their 3s and we did not do what we needed to do in that area. We can find some individual positives with some individual players. I thought our offensive flow was a little bit better. At the end of the day, we keep saying it, we’re going to keep saying it, we have to defend and rebound for us to be our best and we didn’t do that to the level we needed to against a really good Boston College team tonight.

On Veterans vs. Young Team
I think part of it is that veterans understand that you just keep going. You just keep doing it, regardless of how it’s going for you. They took advantage of mistakes that we made. They don’t hurt themselves. I think the biggest thing that a team like that gets, is everybody is settled into a place where they know what they can do and they know their role.

On defending and rebounding
I think the biggest thing is them understanding that our team needs to be about defending and rebounding, the other stuff we can work through. I think offensively that happened tonight. I thought tonight was the best the guys played within themselves and within their roles…It’s everybody’s role to defend and rebound and I don’t think that happened as well tonight.

Boston College Head Coach Steve Donahue
Opening Statement
I thought we were locked in the last couple of days after that disappointing loss (to Rhode Island), all business-like on the trip. It’s almost good that it was away again. Against a very athletic yet young team, I just thought we played with great poise and toughness on both sides of the ball. That was our best defensive effort. We played mostly man-to-man, and I thought all the guys were really locked in. We shared the ball offensively.

On how this was a tune-up to the bulk of the ACC schedule
I hope so. I think you’re going to see teams like South Carolina in our league. You’re playing on the road. For me, it’s all new too. You’re playing against these teams (and) you get a feel for what it’s like. Every game is a new thing, what works and what doesn’t. I think we’re playing well at this time. I thought Joe Trapani was really locked in on both sides of the ball, rebounding the ball, great decisions on the offensive end. If he plays like that, we’re such a better basketball team. But I go back to the defensive end. People are going to look at it and say we shot the ball well and shared it. We do that usually. What’s going to be the difference in us winning games, especially on the road, is we can guard and hold a team under 40 percent (shooting).
